56 men met in cramped quarters in the hot, muggy, Philadelphia summer of 1776.
The windows were nailed shut to keep out spies. They argued about taxation, slavery, big states vs. small states. The one, unified mission that became clear was the need for independence from the English monarchy.
They signed a document, declaring to all that a new nation had been founded. A democracy.
They sparked a fire that lit the world.
